An idea -1

So, my new obsession with zine-making turned into this fun ritual: creating a zine for every little adventure, whether a weekend getaway or a week-long trip. It’s been a blast recreating those moments in a tangible form.

Recently, I stumbled upon some old negatives that had never seen the light of day. Naturally, this led to yet another zine project and sparked a cool idea — why not dig into my archives and make zines from my past work?

At first, I planned to dive into my digital folders and make zines based on each one. But I was overwhelmed by the sheer volume of files. Sorting through thousands of digital images just to find a few good ones seemed daunting. However, flipping through some RAW image folders revealed that many of the photos I’d previously overlooked were actually quite intriguing now.

The idea of unearthing new work was exciting, but the thought of sifting through endless digital junk was not. Enter my old stash of developed film - a far more manageable amount compared to my digital stash, and way less junk to sift through.

My initial plan was to go through all my rolls of developed film and edit it down to my top 50 or 100 images for a zine. But that felt a bit too much like making a book. What I love about zines is their informal and eclectic nature. I thought about making zines based on specific locations, but that just seemed a bit too predictable.

In the end, I went with a more spontaneous approach: randomly selecting a handful of developed negatives and choosing around 15-20 images for a zine. No grand narrative, no uniform aesthetic—just photos for the sake of photos. Some zines will probably be more interesting than others depending on luck of the (negatives) draw.  But in the end it’s about enjoying the process and rediscovering images.

So, here’s the first zine from this new project. I’m excited to see where this journey takes me and I hope you will come along for the ride!
